Whistleblower Raises Alarm
A senior official has filed a whistleblower complaint alleging that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) mishandled highly sensitive Social Security data. According to the complaint, DOGE allegedly copied the entire Social Security Administration database, including names, Social Security numbers, birth records, and demographic details, and uploaded it to a cloud server lacking proper security oversight.
Risks to Millions of Americans
The whistleblower claims the database contained information on over 300 million Americans, making it one of the largest collections of personal data at risk. Because the data was stored in what was described as a “live copy,” it was continuously updated, further raising concerns about the scale of exposure. Experts warn that if the server were breached, it could lead to identity theft, fraudulent benefit claims, and the possible need to reissue Social Security numbers nationwide.
Legal and National Security Concerns
The allegations suggest possible violations of federal privacy laws and a failure to follow proper cybersecurity safeguards. Critics argue that DOGE prioritized efficiency and rapid data access over basic security protocols. Advocacy groups are calling for independent investigations and stronger oversight to ensure government agencies do not compromise citizen data in the name of reform.
